Lu Chi
Fearing assimilation by rain,
he tries to walk over Dragon Mill on light,
climb sunbeams into the wine-red sky--
A cloud pilgrim of the first order,
he presses his prow to the silk
flame of horizon, the laughing sun.
When his sister bites an apple
halfway across the earth, he screams,
two fingers severed like a worm.
He tries to howl Stop! across the world
as his sister sharpens her teeth, her nails.
His soul readies to depart, gulping darkness.
She smiles like the night might erase her, too.
