Oz Hardwick
Oz Hardwick’s work is a Heath-Robinson sort of affair – disparate
elements circling and clanking together in some enticingly awkward
machinery that produces…stuff.
A Photography graduate of Plymouth College of Art, Oz’s original
passion was for performance photography. Coupled with a love of
rock music, this led to an accumulation of album covers, concert
programmes, theatre lobby cards and all manner of printed media.
The most recent outpouring of this graces the pages of Ian Abrahams’ Hawkwind: Sonic Assassins (SAF, 2004).
Alongside this there were also words, which began as the oil that
lubricated the machine but somehow became its raison d’ĂȘtre. You
name it: album sleeve-notes; reviews; Art History articles; short
stories; song lyrics; literary criticism and poemspoemspoems. These
words began to stick together and grow. And some of them became a poetry collection, The Kind Ghosts (bluechrome, 2004). Others didn’t know what to do until they ended up turning into more photographs. And these photographs started hanging around galleries in 2004 and some of them are here.
The machine keeps whirring and clicking. Who knows what it may
turn out next?
