Landscape With A Curlew
Reef-rock. Oyster-shell. White bone.
Wave-rock-broken-monotone.
World of hermit-crab and stone.
Spray in the beat of my wings.
Water rises. Falters. Falls
Loosing sea-weed on sea-walls.
My mate goes away and calls.
What love keeps love in a chain?
Waters toss a crested head
In the nest of the sea-bed.
Life of bird is streaked with red.
Earth full of cold wind.
The wind turns to go. Returns.
The sun rises. Flares and burns.
Follow me across the ferns.
The parting will eat us up.
Yellow like a field of oats
The moon anchors off and floats
Pouring grief down curlew-throats.
It is better not to know.
I searched in widening circles. Found
In patches of purple ground
A stone. Absolutely round.
A stone. All things have an end.
