Pwllinbendithio - Baptismal Pool
The dog’s bark is hollow across the surface of the shining river.
The children run with sure feet from rock to rock to sail the fallen branches
Down the swirling sweep and rounding curl of the constant water.
A satisfying sight, the ships swoop away and enter the dark pool.
Quiet today. No baptism, no preacher’s hwyl, no gathering of
faithful friends
To watch the soft, sure entry into the cold water,
To sing a hymn with fervour enough to warm the water and the heart.
The ripples reach out, so many halos to surround one captive soul.
