Wind-riders
It started out
with the desire to study
these enormous triple-limbed
creatures at close range;
elusively out of bounds,
they whirr in graceful rotation.
In disappointment
I turn away,
only to be breached
by the hover and swoop
of fanned tail movement.
Above sprouting hedgerows,
four ruddy underbreasts
screech their presence
like wasps around the jam jar.
Craning through the sun-roof,
I revel in this unexpected treat
of kite wings.
