Resurrection in the Sun
(to the tune of "A Man and A Woman")
The road digs into the coast,
one side a mass of flowers,
the other a drop to the sea.
L'Enfant sits at the wheel
of an open-top Aston Martin.
All over tan, expensive scent,
only a habit of wearing roll-necks,
(covering the scar)
and the occasional word in Argot,
remind him of his past.
The walnut dash flickers
in the light between the trees.
The blond in the passenger seat knows
nothing, her perfect hair trails
filmic in the sound-track.

Dinner with the ex-pat neighbours.
He retired from plastics,
she a burnt out teacher
with artistic pretensions.
Franglais food, but the view from the patio
compensates - and L'Enfant has tasted worse.
As the brandy circulates,
his eyes are drawn to the English woman's neck.
It shows marks, a tracing of intricate lines
cut in the fat.
He imagines his hands.
