Asylum legend – tales of both staff
and patients – leads to this grouping
one end of a corridor, waiting
for someone to kick off. “He’s about
to blow,” they keep saying. “He’s about
to blow.” Those nurses, who have so
obviously never fought (at school
they were probably the sunken chested
sniggerers, or those who laughed
with the teachers at the fools)
are now twitching with glee
at the thought of becoming involved
in a safe fracas (we always,
but always, outnumber the patient)
and can’t wait until after to tell
of their part in it. Given the nod,
now, they approach the action with
a gunfighter’s finger flex. But rarely
rarely at the front.
