Patrick Green
Vancouver
Covered in post-it notes, covered in paper scraps
and metal clips.
Held together with masking tape.
Blu-tac merging with fabric
and skin.
Wild beard with wild eyes and fading wispy hair.
Ranting and waxing, pouring advertisements
onto the avenue crossroads.
It’s sad to watch him trying to sell
the words he scribbles down.
Rushing from person to person.
Every time being ignored.
He points and demands
“I’ll write one for you sir, I have one for you ma’am”
It’s been this way for so long.
Then when the paper is turned down he tacks it to an empty space
or covers up an old note more likely.
He’s a dripping ink yeti.
If they cleared him of his letters,
they’d find he were just a ghost underneath.
Poor, delicate and always desperate.
Where does he spend his evenings and time off?
Does he type continuously without a break?
Does his mind ever stop?
I wonder if the lines he writes,
are priceless beyond measure.
Patrick Green is a 26 year old Visual Artist and Creative Writer currently living in the North East, born in Manchester. His poetry ranges from stark observation to surreal metaphor.
