To Linhope Spout
You are the one we head for, whether walking
down the brown moors from Bleakhope
to see the green of rowans rise
out of the distant seam
where you lie hidden
then passing below their sprays of scarlet berries
with under us the startling scarlet domes
of fly agaric studded with white, to find
the summit of the fall, where your black flow
breaks white, and vanishes
or struggling up the tight valley from Linhope
hearing your roar grow louder till we round
a corner to confront
your straight strong thrust between
those mossy lips.
