Fireworks
I like those ones that shriek into the dark
to cause the cowardice of Labradors,
I like it when a firework explores
the absent light and wastes itself, a spark
merely for a moment in a black grate,
and I like those ones reluctant to go off,
which fart across six feet of lawn, or cough
inside a milk bottle, or lie in wait
for uncle to investigate then BANG
they blow his hearing aid. I like those louts
over there, hilarious with drink, who hang
around for kicks, bangers stuffed in their pockets
like loaded guns or dicks to boast about.
Come on then, boys, amaze me with yer rockets.
