I hope you are better
and not like the wireless set.
The one you said looked like a cake tin.
We didn’t finish the cake you baked.
Daddy had a frog in his throat.
I’m sending you the scarf I made in Craft.
It’s as soft as a rabbit’s ear.
I hope you like the book we’ve bought you:
‘Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes’.
I’m sorry the cover’s a bit torn.
Our fence has been blown down.
Through the gap we saw something move.
Running away quick as a flash.
I thought it was a fox.
Daddy said it was only a cat.
The wind blew a parting in the long grass.
The barber said I should wear mine on the right.
But you like it on the left. The boy’s way.
You can’t see the wind. Only
the parting it makes.
