Cave (4) $1.00. trevor reeves. box 1458, dunedin, new zealand. a purple cover photo of buk leads off another good issue of this genuine door opener down under. nz poets & writers get their share but so do some of the best from the uk and usa. poems, visuals, articles, reviews, numerous adverts, a tidy blend resulting in a good magazine. g.j.melling on buk, followed by a large bunch of buk poetry / ds long / hone tuwhare / alan wells / wm wantling short story / winans / plus notices & reviews together with a fair helping of pretty weak concrete poems.
Dharma $1.60 sub. po box 5, prospect 5082, s.a., australia. australian little mags, unlike their nz counterparts, appear to be still in the heart of mimeo land. they are all a little rough in presentation but all show spirit, and this comes to the fore in dharma. the poetry is, as yet, local - with a few uk small mag poets getting in from time to time
no 9 horsam / peter lawlor / leon spiro / rae desmond jones / darlington / john edwards / &c.
no 10 a typewriter offset issue, but still produced as per mimeo. coady / buttrose / connors / darlington / finch / de wet / pilcher / klimaszewski / ds long / & others
Dying Orpheus $4.00 stephen chan. 18 currie ave, aukland 4, NZ. the fifth & final issue of orpheus mag - large format, good layout with lots of illustrations. poetry in reasonable selection plus lengthy reviews. a shame to see it once and then have it die.
Edge (5/6) guest edited by bruce mcallister. christchurch, nz. available in the uk from mcbride & broadley, wood cottage - nash rd, gt horwood, nr bletchley, bucks. subtitled "sf directions" this must be the largest (120 10x8 pages) and most forlooking issue of this mag yet. well printed on blue paper, neat design it attempts to cover the growing sf field in the literary terms it deserves - via poem, story, critical article & illustration. henry luc planchat / goldbarth / connors / reeves / rene char / lunde / & many others. numerous short sf stories translated from european languages. the feel of the mag is one of the vastness of the field, its huge possibilities plus its reality. a very good issue indeed.
The Eyes of Angels by ross fitzgerald. S1.00. saturday centre. box 140, po cammeray, nsw, australia 2062. a young poets first collection, introduction and huge praise by david holbrook.
Fields (4) adrian flavell. po mylor, sa 5153, australia. the editor thinks this might be his last issue, somehow i think it wont be. another example of a down-under mag just emerging from the swamp of battered mimeoness. litho produced but still mimeo presentation. ds long / langford / reeves / lang / connors / pilcher / buttrose / & others
The Flying Fish by laurence clarke. the association of orientally flavoured syndics. 18 currie ave, aukland 4. NZ. glossy production u/g styled cartoon strip, rather unoriginal these days even if very well drawn.
Heart 47 williamson rd, para hills. 5096, sa. australia. typical australian little mag again, very rough mimeo format but getting better as issues progress.
no 1 edwards / pilcher / butrose / rae desmond jones / & others
no 2 coady / limbert / boyce / f lavell / coxhill / harvey / horsam / & more
Kinky Mammals by phillip chanel. $1.50. saturday centre. box 140, cammeray, nsw 2062. poems for children on the wallaby, dingo, wombat, koala and other australian beasts. i hope that the rather unfortunate title does not bear the same connotations down-under as it does here.
Pathways into the Brain by dennis list. $1.80. caveman press. box 1458, dunedin, nz. admirable paperback production, good cover, clean print but what an awful load of rubbish inside. list leads us into each poem with an egotrip comment. the poems are not much better. a pity.
Ploughman's Lunch gery oliver. 12 wolseley rd, lindfield, n.s.w. 2070. a neat mimeo with the, by now, typical australian line up - locals plus uk littlemaggers.
no 1 darlington / horsam / witty / male / karen hughes / &c.
no 2 rae desmond jones / coady / john edwards / boyce / flavell / &c.
Ratz by Joanne Burns. $1.50. Saturday centre. box 140, po cammeray, nsw, australia 2062. highly liberated and very free form poems by the overrated down under woman wonder. its not that bad really.
The Saturday Club Book of Poetry $1.50. pat laird. box 140. po cammeray, 2062, australia. this mag, despite its title, is streets ahead of its local contemporaries production wise although its content is uneven. gives a good, broad and rather mainstream picture of australian new poetry.
no 3 mudie / ewers / carr / fitzgerald / zizis / wright / cannon / darlington / boyce / flavell / slade / &c.
no 4 joanna burns/ laird / nixon / rae desmond jones / ortloff / & more.
no 5 bate / burns / washburn / slade / mundie / kan / blood / &c.
The Snow & The Glass Window by peter olds. caveman press. box 1458, dunedin, nz. crisp pamphlet poetry. olds shows he's capable in structure & form yet will insist on a neo-beat style, an weak buk / wantling imitation voice. so strange coming from the environment it does.
Time & Time Again by norman simms. 90c. caveman press. box 1458, dunedin, nz. broad based subject matter & strong form from an american now living in new zealand.
Tweed (4) janice m bostok. box 304, murwillumbah, nsw, 2484, australia. neater than most, uneven selection of small mag-ers. weyman / flavell / shea / berg / & others.

information - contra-information by toth gabor. edizioni modullo, milanino sul gardia, 98052 miflenuova sul clisi, italia. a booklet of visual semantics. twisted letter forms and other experiments. interesting enough, the stretching of letters out as far as they can go, yet not as visually exciting as it should be.
International Artists Cooperation run by klaus groh, roter steinweg 2a, D-2901 friedrichsfehn, germany puts out a series of 4 page leaflets printing scraps of info and addresses in a highly confused format as well as publishing minibooks (paid for by author) the latest of which is no 31 "landscapes" there is also news of an archive. this means you sent your material to klaus groh for free and he puts it on his bookshelf. should you be in that part of germany you may (no doubt) visit and look at the archive. if you are not in that part of germany, and most of us are not, then its pretty useless. there are too many so called "archives" around. on the other hand klaus groh might be genuine, its so hard to tell at a distance.
Langer Vers - Bill Bread by herman damen. Hf1 25. ibisdreef 400, utrecht. holland. "mobilizing language 1966-1972". one of the largest and most lavish solo concretist collections i've yet to see. damen is a dutch experimentor in most of concretes directions and this 200 page silver covered monster of a book uses everything from photograph to fold out in order to show off the poet's intentions. the joy in this collection is the combination of variety, visual excitement and fine quality colour printing on a selection of papers there are pages you look through, pages with cut outs, kinetic sequences, braile poems, and on and on. favorites of mine include the photo of the poet throwing books into a concrete mixer, the purple finger marks of "seizure on both sides", damen's cow and footprints. a bumper book worth a million concrete magazines. more strength to the man's arm.
