She, so active behind the bike shed I recall, repented, took holy
orders, gave them back, wed a gambler and a number of others.
He, brightest in our Class, got to Oxbridge, discovered dope.
dropped out, hit a cop, got clean, counsels the homeless.
She, with the port wine stain who hid her face. sought a specialist,
won ‘Miss Bridgend’, produced a brood of six with several lovers.
He, never academic, trained as a roofer, fell down on the job, woke
from a coma, built a future out of new and safer wheelchairs.
She, little Miss Charity, ever helping others, helped herself to a
widow’s pension, wears the pallor of time inside, is on benefits.
Friends reunited over coffee and cake: Pam, Rod, Lynn, Brian,
Janey and me. We met today.
Just one of us without a stick and none with much to say.
