If you could sort
the voices you almost hear
into various categories – good, bad,
mischievous righteous – and construct
a system by which each would find,
eventually, of its own accord, its
allocated space, the voices would become
of no consequence.
If you could saw up
clouds and stack the portions in boxes
skies would become easier to organise.
Although some clouds are bound to
escape,
confuse matters, make the cardboard
soggy, the boxes collapse, smudge
the labels.
So now do you go among us
reach-out-and-touch-us
flesh and blood people
as if we are the ghosts
listening for these others.
