It drizzled outside the
Bay window all Saturday
Afternoon. Shadow puppet
Figures appeared and
Disappeared out of the
Dense fog like some
Kind of vaudeville act.
First the mailman – with
Sideburns that enveloped
His face – next, the stout
Man walking his dog,
Whistling Dance of the
Sugar-Plum Fairy. The
Supporting cast of characters
Were nondescript though
Entertaining all the same.
Inside, a half-eaten grilled
Cheese sandwich sat next
To a steaming bowl of
Tomato soup while a
Wide-eyed make-believe
Princess kept a constant
Lookout for her prince
Charming who, naturally,
Would be wearing a coronet
And riding a white steed
Through the front entrance.
