the missiles stiff with mud
sink slowly in their watering holes
In the last analysis
we are all prophets
Noah’s houseboat wallows through the wine-dark sea
the flywheels of the maelstrom gather speed
In the last analysis
behind the airtight confessional door
get ready to chop up your women
when the priest opens his ironclad belly
In the last analysis
we shall all fall asleep end to end
on the trembling couches of amniotic plush
(the red couch expands — I grow small and dark)
In the last analysis
we crawl through the bricked-up warrens
past frescoes depicting the Lives of the Rats
while the world’s sewers are brought into close alignment
In the last analysis
when the desert rumbles through a sieve
I am busy decoding my neural pulses
while the flames run about in the dwarf-light.
