Rail Journey
The train station again
sharing compartments with strangers
listening to the click/clack
the journey running to catch the clock.
Our own timetable beating in the wings
as no words pass between us.
It's dark outside, eyes meet
faces of travellers rising from embankments.
Staring back to the landscape
with the occasional explosion of town lights
we wait with a common thread
spinning our air, a spider on a path of moonlight.
I wonder about the man in the corner
or the woman engrossed in her book,
whispers from behind.
All we share is the dark-hours connection.
