The Bending Of Light
The camera flashes
And everyone smiles
Except the dead man
Coughing his life into the sink.
The doorbell goes
And children run
Except the thin woman
Who's selling her body to pay bills.
The rain falls
And the man moves
Closer to the edge
Voices splitting in his head.
The church bells ring
And ladies kiss the bride
Except the mother
Who wishes she wasn't there.
The camera flashes-
Dead faces pan the lens
As the photographer shouts
The mouths quirk into smiles.
