His Short Life as a Painter
Was his art ruled uniquely
by the imagination?
Were images its only wealth?
Did it not classify objects?
Did it not pronounce them
real or imaginary?
Did it not qualify them,
define them? Did it merely feel
and present them? Nothing more?
He struggled painting old shacks
and mysterious beach huts,
trying to give his life a shape.
People wanted snow scenes,
horses heads and kittens.
After making eight
of the thirteen known errors,
in painting the plum,
he ventured abroad
and discoverd a weakness
for dark and bustled
women with castanets.
