Teija-Tuulia Ahola lives and works in her home town of Tampere, Finland. Since she graduated in 1988 her work has grown to include various media. Central to her work is an affinity with nature, the natural environment and the relationship people have with it. While often directly critical of human abuse of the environment, her work seduces the viewer through her use of engaging materials and surfaces. It is only later we become aware of the price that this beauty extracts. Ahola has shown extensively in her native Finland, and her work can be seen in collections around the world. Recently her work was represented in the Naturaleza, PhotoEspanja and Skerra Museum in the United Kingdom.
This series of images reflects the process of a Finnish lake called ‘Näsijärvi’ (near Tampere) freezing and unfreezing, a remarkably beautiful process. The frozen surface is put to good use by walkers, skiers, anglers, and sauna users.
