Blinks
No one it seems is precisely sure
Where this train is going;
All that is certain
Is that it is full of people
And full of doubt.
One moment it’s Manchester,
The next it’s Poole
And I can’t afford a coffee,
So I distract myself staring
At the sky’s big blue eye.
I’m writing this in real time,
But all I want is that can of cider
That the laughing suited man opposite
Is sipping and sharing
With his worryingly sunlit girlfriend.
“I’ve only got one eye.” My neighbour says,
“Can we swap so that I can sit by the window,
Otherwise I can’t see the sea?”
“There is no sea near Manchester.” I say
And the sky blinks.
