Aeon
Perhaps my whim will make it rain,
Or then perhaps I'll make the call
To cleave this strange blue world in twain,
Or conjure up a Summer squall.
I have no truck with such as these.
Perhaps I'll build you up and then
I'll force you all upon your knees,
For you are nought but mortal men.
Now when the stars, a great festoon,
Hang like glass globes above the sea,
I'll then pull down the amber moon,
For now, or for eternity!
You'll bring me gold and sard and myrrh.
I'll watch you stack them from on high,
And like the tallest conifer
You'll see my pride will scrape the sky.
My lust a quenchless, honeyed fount -
Your world full of banalities -
I'll make my throne the Hellespont,
Add to my principalities!
Your female gender I will raise
To dizzy heights upon a throne,
And daily they will sing my praise,
Their awful lord whose heart is stone.
With liquid gold from distant suns
Your sterile world I will refine,
Make all your men automatons,
Each woman my own concubine!
Ah, I have laboured much in vain!
Am banished by a cryptic verse.
I'm smitten by a Titan's chain.
Your God, he rules the universe.
