Westbourne Road
The 24 hour petrol station on the main road
two floors below
the houses and the chemist
dominate the foreground
but the backdrop of the moors
is all tourists see
the second hand shop on the corner
usually has its lights on
but this waking morning
it waits in the darkness
a bored
tired
unshaven
disillusioned
petrol attendant refills
carefully eyeing the monitor on the side of
the pump
the nightshift is nearly over as
snow sits and dictates the direction of the
slide
on the busy road below
the petrol tanker creeps into the station
with enough fuel to ignite the dawn.
