New Year’s Day
It’s that time of year -
resetting the mental compass;
when snowdrops aim
to be better snowdrops
and daffodils better daffodils.
Some crazily ambitious snowdrops
yearn to be daffodils
(and vice versa).
Even some railway engines
elect to strike out anew,
dazzled by the newness of everything;
forgetting about the dull old tracks.
