Haiku From The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path
Day 1 - 29 May
crash of surf
unseen through mist
a blackbird
on a rock
two silent crows
the tide far below
after the sharp descent
spreading toes
in my boots
Day 2 - 30 May
over the burial stones
a black-backed gull
in strong wind
becalmed bay
small boats at anchor
drift and turn
on a twig
in rough wind
the stonechat sings
Day 3 - 31 May
sweeping rain
a fulmar hovers
drops and jabs the sand
sun through the grove
a gust blows rain
out of leaves
the hiker drops
what he’s reading and snores -
glare of dormitory light
Day 4 - 1 June
uphill with my stick
letting it decide with each step
where to fall
surf at the rock
a gull lands
meeting its shadow
by the path
dying bluebells
stiff in the wind
up on the cliff
nothing between its edge
and the surge of the sea
farm wall
yellow eyes of the black cat
follow me
cries
of circling gulls
a buzzard soars
