House Painting as Media
Deep red slipping
under phosphorous blue
the day is as dark
as a movie theatre
the paint slides down
the house like a screen
the film
is about to begin
from the balconies
of windows
from the aisles
of the lawns
alone
with each other
the elderly
watch
they have no need
for soap opera
in these dark
and luminous days
the film is about
to begin
we climb
ladders into air
they anticipate
anxious, afraid
we are transforming
a house
as though it were
the world
what would they have
us change it to?
