Caliban
These immaculate cognoscenti,
turning their books with soft hands,
weaving skeins of concepts carefully
designed to catch our broken fingernails
and tear them to the quick, keeping us
baffled in the confines of their will!
They do not sweat as we sweat, but
practise the yellow malevolence of power.
I must be content to crawl through life,
tasting the dew upon the morning spears
of grass – the only love I get, my dog’s tongue
upon the cuts and callouses of servitude.
