Dog Running
Racing our train
a white dog dementedly ran
over a thunder-dark plain.
Crows mobbed him like sins
rushing to roast. He fell behind,
still frenziedly chasing, pared
to a white wisp by the wind
of his hopeless running. The black horde
stayed easily with him. All raced
backwards into the past. Who else
was watching? Who else will find
at some other, unlooked-for time,
the crazy dog running, running,
not yet left behind
in the dark of the mind?
