“Get on old girl” as you brought in washing,
bump against you to dry dishes,
in catholic fashion lower his head
and whistle Mozart to quell his hurt
at ironic comment. Chores done
he’d make tea – for him Assam,
for you milkless green Jupiter Jollity
after which he’d likely nudge you
into his den to settle in the hay
with his favourite video, ‘Spartacus’.
