Noli me tangere, you said.
What drew us there
was learning to cha-cha
on the sanded floor
in the open beach club
below the great house
with the slender daughter
and the tragic wartime
history (shot out of hand
just as they are now
on the Thai border,
in Somalia, Darfur).
In the restaurant then
it was suave Niven
filming Bonjour Tristesse.
And there were five
beautiful acolytes attending
the pent up figure
at the corner table;
it was Picasso, those eyes,
never again such magnets.
High-flying seagulls
cruised the evening sun,
heliographic rumbas
on the polished sky.
