One for the Pot
On trying to read A Thousand Plateaus
by Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari
Whenever I’ve allowed God to exist
I’ve perceived him as either a mobster,
a dunderhead or a deconstructionist
with depression. In fact he’s a lobster
say Deleuze and Guattari, themselves post-
structuralists of a ludic tendency.
Or are they? What if God is them – the most
he could think of being while staying free
from responsibility: a Gallic
philosopher with two heads for extra
self-explanatory power? No phallic
symbol invoked by one of the scarcer
Amazonian tribes provokes deflation
at its vulnerability like God
as crustacean creator of the nation
that gave us lobster thermidor. No good
(except pity) can come of such an image.
But God inherent in the jouissance
of words as they burst from les grands fromages
de Paris I can live with. Vive la France!
