Welcome to SOUTH 41, we hope you will enjoy the poems published here for the first time. They were chosen from over three hundred and fifty submissions from 125 poets, using our anonymous selection process. We also trust that the profile and selected poems of Daphne Schiller, a long-time supporter of SOUTH, will bring you pleasure.

The launch to celebrate this issue will be held in Maidenhead in May, and we look forward to seeing you there. It is a great opportunity to meet the poets and selectors, and to hear them read their work. We were very glad to see both new and old faces at the Swindon Arts Centre, where we appreciated the warm and professional welcome from Matt Holland and his staff – thank you to all who made this a really enjoyable 40th anniversary evening.

As you will be aware, we no longer return manuscripts. We have also made some further changes to our systems. Poets should check if they have been successful by visiting the Next issue section of our website. A list of selected poems will appear there by the end of January (for the April edition) and by the end of July (for the October edition). We will no longer email successful poets nor will we send back stamped addressed postcards. Successful poets will, as usual, be contacted before publication to invite them to take part in the launch reading.
