Witchcraft
A knight, was weary from the way,
Came to the castle of a Fay,
And prayed to find refreshment there,
And grace, and lodgment for his mare.
And there he lingered many a day;
For she was young like a green tree,
And quick, and perilous, and free.
Her mouth was like the honey hid
Within the Chestnut's pyramid.
But she was old in witchery.
And when he had her by his side
He could not think upon his bride.
She was not sad in her caress:
She was so full of winsomeness
That all the courage in him died.
But she was frolicsome and wise,
And when he thought to gain his prize,
She cheated him with cruel charms,
And brought his True-Love to his arms
That was most gracious in his eyes.
Who trembling called on him by name,
And kissed, and asked him how she came.
But when he knew his Heart's Delight,
He turned him from her in the night,
And very bitter was his shame.
