Post Toil Debriefing
at each throat other
weary quarrel keeps going
dead ivy leaf scratch
window wind-rattle like
that “Your fault” “Yours”
“His” “Hers” “Theirs”
prowl at camp fire edge keens
throat could be catheat babypain
chorus at least feel audience
third party to appeal to
for who’s right for some
justice anything better’n
lie down together not when
no sleep’d come not when
can’t get sword up anymore
out of dark into light’d show
how reach cauldron boil back:
life they took get to accept
blame put where it belongs
on what first blocked their light
their keen eyes surely
owed to see far better future
god that round their fireborder
would it never either
come or go shut out shut up SHUT UP
at least still past everything
still that hatelike in common
clung in close exhaustion
two ends to the blade of night
