North
At low tide, you threw such arcs of water,
the wind full of bottles and air.
I am sitting, netting.
The water doesn’t wet anything;
it absorbs the air beneath fences
of old bedsteads, beneath crude bone.
Open and present, unmarred by indifference,
you shift north.
There is something in the soil exposed between two oceans
and I am no longer a beach flooded.
I am sitting, netting.
Over what has the air frozen?
The roots (the back of my legs)? The hawkweed (the time)?
Here, facing north.
we can hear the flitch of a cello.
The evening sits and fills;
