Entrance and Exit
St Pancras beset by hellhounds
- a story told before -
they, or it, one great one
leapt
leaps
for his throat to make an immortal
figure out of him
to cast
in bronze
to post
by Gloucester Gate to Regent's
Park, a thicket jays
lurk in (jays lurking ! such
the after-silence
nothing but black taxis
mindless children leading
parents dare break)
St Pancras recoils
eternally, is
eternally be-
set
St Pancras' arms
surrender, his palms flat
out pat
the turbulence the hellhounds
the taxis
create
obliviously
perpetually to his fate
the cause of which
the consequence
betrays into
insignificance, an insignificance
the cast act portrays perpetually
to one ever instantly changing
audience
