from Scenes From My Favourite Movie
II
He climbs barefoot
up the street-sign pole.
Reaching the top he sits on
14th AVE
clutching
32nd ST
and grins at his friends
wriggling with the joy
of accomplishment.
I reach a curved hand
toward his bare feet.
He pulls them up and yells
HAAAAY!
IV
There’s John
coming tip the neighbour’s drive
in his tan suede jacket
with the drizzle-squint
of an un-umbrella’d male;
now he pulls out a large
white handkerchief,
slows slightly to pass the hole
in the fence between yards
and blow his nose.
Then,
coming to a complete stop,
he squints down
at the new suede coat
and stands there rubbing it
in the drizzling rain
with the large white handkerchief.
