When Walter Bishop askedhow he got hooked on dope
Bird gave him this account:
‘Bish, there are many things
that have gone wrong with me.
I’d hire a specialist
and spend a hundred bucks
on him to check my heart.
Don’t do no good at all.
My heart is still messed up.
I see this ulcer man
and seventy-five I pay
to cool my ulcers out.
Don’t do no good at all.
My ulcers always hurt.
But down a dismal lane
there lurks a little cat
and five bucks is his fee
for one small bag of shit
Ulcer’s gone, heart trouble gone,
my ailments gone away
and that is why I’m hooked.’
