The Haunting of the Supermarket
As old Miss Winterborn
Pushed the old trolley
Down the frozen-food aisle,
A ghostly packet of peas
Floated out of a freezer.
Her false teeth chattered
As a headless potato
Screamed at everyone.
A host of phantom baked beans
Rose to the roof, spilling their contents
On a cashier’s head.
Then the newspapers woke up,
Rolled themselves up
And bashed some people’s brains in.
As the manager rushed out of his office,
A transparent cornflakes packet
Dived, and swallowed him whole.
As he disappeared, he struggled
but
He couldn’t get out
and he choked on mouldy cereal.
