Swift, Eft
for L.U.
lish, man, lizard jerks aboot
skews up at us quick-a-foot
quirking silent excitement, skecking
-but it’s just pollen, siling-doon
as has him quizzing breet of een!
deed leaves i’ his dyke stiff yet
agile as him, and mair skreeketting,
he takes nae notice of, though their racket
alarms us, false-alarms-he’s-learnt
shrews lurking stirtle, hurtling though it is.
he’s suggested more by that dunnock’s creep
like a mouse in the grasks and stems o’thistles
warned more, I suspect, by the wren’s skrecking
too loud for its size mebbe for such reason!
