Him
it was him I saw this morning
on the eastbound piccadilly
with his ipod, primark trousers
and a night-black tie from tie rack,
not like last time. then i saw him
all in leather, bringing pizza
to a house that didn’t want it,
all in black and with a helmet.
or he’ll come to check the boiler
corgi registered and smiling,
overalls the colour of the
sky between the stars at midnight.
you may see how big the issue
really is that day you take the
magazine and – poof! – recycled
gone like last week’s copy, turned to
something else that’s made of atoms.
or he’ll lean across a counter
just to press two ten-pence pieces
– on the pretext of his giving
you your change – onto your eyelids
