Lorand Gaspar's poem Islands will appear in Four Poems later this year, to be published jointly by Shearsman Books and Oasis Books. The original text, Iles, first appeared in the volume Egée, suivi de Judée (Gallimard, Paris, 1980). His most recent volume of poetry is Sol absolu et d'autres textes (Gallimard, 1982), and the most recent prose books are Carnets de Patmos (Le temps qu'il fait, 1992) and Feuilles d'observation (Gallimard, 1986). His Selected Poems, in translations by Roger Little, were published in Dublin in 1989. Peter Riley's books include Sea Watches (Prest Roots Press, 1991), Tracks and Mineshafts and Two Essays (Grosseteste Press, 1983). He is also represented in the Paladin anthology The New British Poetry, and his Poèmes choisis, in translations by Lorand Gaspar and Claire Malroux, will be published by Amiot Lenganey in Paris this year. Leza Lowitz is an American poet resident in Japan these past three years, where she teaches at Tokyo University. She is editing and co-translating an anthology of Japanese women's poetry, which is being supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Yann Lovelock's translations of H.C. ten Berge will be published by Forest Books this year. Christopher Gutkind here makes his second appearance in Shearsman: in the eighth issue the selection from his Three Tirings was mistakenly titled Three Tidings, which error the editor regrets.
