Night Crossing
Roscoff - Plymouth
Moon in a granite sky
leaves borrowed light
on well-black water.
In the distance,
a line of lights
fades to white from amber -
a beacon forms a triangle
with Saturn and Jupiter
over the ledge of the land
and only the boat is solid,
the curve of its deck
beneath the eyes
that move to make these words,
a trail of inverted light
on the page’s channel.
