Claire Louise Hunt
The Madwoman in the Attic
Storms were her secret hiding place.
Licking pebbles clean she would surface
among the pages of literature.
A crazy girl in a convent, somewhere
in Jamaica, stitching silk roses
and dreaming of England,
of rain, shimmering like grains of sand
between her toes.
Now a cold wind blows, waits for her in the shadows.
Qui est la?
A sorceress in a red dress, writing her history in fire.
The first flames were beautiful and struck up
an orchestra within her.
Then came the others.
Her screams flutter like flags of surrender,
then fade into the margins.
