Riding
I am to ride, ride like a grown tall,
A secret smiling, riding wide, now a boy
Knees astride and loving, boss above them all
Not in a skirt, daft clogging, clinging.
Now clean to the rough coat, the cantering ripple.
See, I strain tall, seven and a bit with chest puffed.
He measures me for the grand habit, top to toe proud,
Shoulder to arm, wide arms, tape flows to my neck, middle, all.
Am called to the study, then told No, no riding
No Whys, no Buts. My knees slide away. Please close the door.
But I have this hollow coconut shell
Two halves to clap, to echo together, cloppity clop,
Now I can hear, can saunter astride, canter
Trot gallop, and away Sky Horse and I,
Caught in a wild noose of air to everywhere.
