a hardening of time
a hardening of time. a grittiness of substance. the cracking of
ice along the rough edged stream. a matting down of grasses.
tracing the silt as it flattens out on the road. the images
accumulate at the back of the light. in the space left over from
night’s sleep. in the raw edged green river. where the brain has
not lingered. a passage marked by this hardness, this flat and
hammered edge of time. this distance in between all shapes. this
remote haze or sudden clarity. precision of the gaze unrewarded.
the only message resonates without truth. a lengthening of the
day’s shadows. a filtering of hours. each one strung as a sharp
edged shell. winter work when the mind can no longer tend the
fires.
