White blossom breaks from the cherry tree’s snow.
The opulent branches are over-spent;
everything turning to water. We go
through the conservatory, sun-filled below
the bay tree, whose leaves we snap for their scent.

Along the path through fat sunlight we’re slow,
the creaked-in prints of soles quick to relent —
everything turning to water. We go
down to the lawn, skin hot with cold - aglow -
make angels on our backs. Nothing is meant.
White blossom breaks from the cherry tree’s snow,
and the wide-eyed, eye-blue sky weeps as though
the sun, rolling itself aside, has sent
everything turning to water. We go
back into the house — not the house you’d know.
Easter is stirrring in its shroud of Lent.
