Air Disaster
Always on a mountainside.
Metal twists a chaotic grave.
Torn bodies hang
and contort,
stilled by the chill wind’s whistle.
Wail-wake.
Always the tardy
ludicrous dots.
Rescuers
clawing the skeletal path.
Too late.
Blood has burned its deep
nameless epitaph
in the snow.
Always this flash
this fall
this ghostly descent
shielding death’s scrambled
indecency.
A dreadful calm.
Such is the unity
of such a death.
A privacy
plummeting to a
public peace and
camera whir.
Always the television nightmare
sharpening the senses
from their after-dinner glow.
A new voracity.
Reading the surnames
in black-bordered papers,
selling the headlines -
DEATH TOLL RISES
and rises…….
