another eden
(hemingway and the garden of eden)
We met september standing tall
her long legs brown from the
summer spent in france. As slim as
she was her arms were strong and
her hair was cut shorter than fine.
Her mopped fringe fell to her
charcoal brow, retaining a boyish
look in the smile that admitted
her beauty
I remember the night we held
together wearing only identical
shirts. The morning typing by the
pool, while she was upstairs,
asleep in the room, still dreaming
our night before. Then as I awoke
and tried to recall this girl without
a name, I called her imagination.
Returning to me as I picked up
the pen to start to write again.
