Somewhere
The night has the gift
of a full moon in its teeth,
but I am staying in.
If I stepped outside
the storm trees
might loosen their grip
on the clouds and the hillside
tumble towards me.
I might see shattered stars
in the flooded road,
or the bodies of cats
shape shifting through doorways.
I might come across snowdrops
stained orange by streetlights,
and fences with their backs to me.
Voices might hurl themselves
down side streets,
going somewhere,
while I pass unnoticed
through the shudder of blue, grey, blue
thrown out by curtainless windows.
